Description:

A bodkin is one of the most simple yet essential tools in fly tying, essentially a fine-point needle mounted on a small handle. Its used for a wide range of precise, detail-oriented tasks that help clean up and finish a fly. Most commonly, tiers use a bodkin to apply small amounts of head cement or UV resin exactly where its needed without overdoing it. Its also invaluable for clearing out the hook eye if thread or glue blocks it, and for picking or teasing out materials like dubbing to give a fly a more natural, lifelike appearance. Beyond that, it can help separate fibers, adjust materials, or fix minor mistakes without cutting anything. While its a very simple tool, it ends up being one of the most frequently used items on a tying bench because of how much control and precision it offers.
