Description:
What it is
Hareline Barred Flashabou Magnum is a barred flash tinsel made from Mylar fibers. Each strand is wide and long with a transparent, flashy look, and its built to hold up to hard fishing and toothy mouths.
What to tie with it
Use it anywhere you want bold flash and a baitfish-style barring: as an underwing or overwing in streamers, mixed into bucktail, or stacked into long tails on articulated flies. It also works as a flashy body wrap or lateral line, and it crosses over easily into lure tying for bucktail skirts and spinnerbait skirts.
Flies and the fish they're for
Its right at home in big pike-style articulated flies, where long barred flash helps sell the profile and movement for pike and other toothy predators in weedy lakes and rivers. Tied as a Flashabou Caddis, it becomes a dry-fly material for trout on caddis-heavy rivers and tailwaters when you want a bright, attention-getting body. In a flash-heavy steelhead flash fly, its used to build an all-flash wing for summer or winter steelhead in Great Lakes tribs and Pacific Northwest rivers.
How it compares
Its a practical alternative to grizzly saddle feathers when you want a barred look, and it wont degrade like feathers.
