Hareline Chocklett’s Gummy Wings

Description:

What it is

Chockletts Gummy Wings is a translucent synthetic wing material with realistic venation built into the sheet. Its easy to cut to shape and easy to handle at the vise, so you can make matched wings or consistent segments without fighting the material.

What to tie with it

Use it for wings on large dry flies and for wingcases on nymphs. Most tyers cut it into paired wing shapes or trim it into a wingcase blank, then tie it down cleanly over the top of the hook to lock in that veined, translucent look.

Flies and the fish they're for

This style of gummy film shows up in Chocklett patterns like the Gummy Minnow, which is a baitfish imitation fished for everything from smallmouth and largemouth bass in rivers and lakes to stripers in moving water and reservoirs. It also fits right into patterns like the Disc Slider, a surface fly aimed at warmwater fish like bass, and the Gummy Stone, where that veined sheet makes a natural-looking wing or wingcase for stonefly-style fishing on trout rivers. In bigger predator bugs, Chocklett patterns like the T-Bone are tied for musky, where bulky, durable synthetic components help build a large profile.

How it compares

Compared to DS Flyes Web Wing, Gummy Wings has a different texture and is better suited to larger patterns. Web Wing is more at home on small to medium flies, while Gummy Wings shines when you want a bigger wing or wingcase that still trims cleanly.
