Hareline Grizzly Variant Saddle Hackle Strung

Description:

What it is

Hareline Grizzly Variant Saddle Hackle Strung is a bundle of strung saddle hackle feathers with a grizzly-marked, variant look. The feathers run about 4 to 6 inches long and have the softer, webbier fiber you expect from saddle, so they breathe and sweep back when you move them through the water.

What to tie with it

This is classic palmer hackle for big, buggy bodies on streamers, and it also makes an easy, mobile wing when you stack a few feathers and tie them in flat. The longer fibers are handy for shaping crustacean claws or squid-style tentacles, and its right at home on larger predator patterns where you want motion without adding a lot of bulk.

Flies and the fish they're for

On a Wooly Bugger, this hackle is the workhorse for the palmered body that gives the fly its pulse for trout in rivers and stillwaters, and it crosses over to bass fishing anywhere buggers are a staple. In a Seaducer, its part of the flowing profile thats fished for inshore saltwater species like redfish, seatrout, and snook on flats and around grass and mangroves. In a Deceiver, it helps build that long, lively baitfish shape that gets used for striped bass and bluefish in the surf and rips, and also for other open-water predators when you need a convincing baitfish silhouette.

How it compares

Hareline Grizzly Half Saddle is another way to buy a grizzly saddle assortment. Hareline Strung Saddle is similar in size and quality, but it doesnt have the grizzly marking.
