Hareline Non Skid Hackle Pliers

Description:

What it is

Hareline Non Skid Hackle Pliers are hackle pliers with a non-skid grip surface and an ergonomic hand fit. Theyre built to hold material with a slip-resistant, twist-resistant grip, so the feather or strand stays put while you wrap. The construction is designed to be durable at the bench.

What to tie with it

Use them for holding hackle while tying, especially when youre winding a feather into a collar or palmering it down a shank. They also come in handy for grabbing and wrapping small, delicate feathers or fine ribbing without the material slipping as you tension it and turn the pliers.

Flies and the fish they're for

Hackle pliers are a day-to-day tool for classic dry flies where youre wrapping dry-fly hackle into a clean collar, which is a staple for trout on rivers and spring creeks. Theyre also useful on nymphs like the Gold Ribbed Hares Ear and Pheasant Tail, where a lot of tyers use fine wire ribbing; those are go-to flies for trout in freestone rivers and tailwaters. And when you get into modern nymph styles like Perdigons and Czech nymphs, youre still wrapping slender ribbing and building tight profiles for trout in faster current and competition-style presentations.
