Hareline Peak Profile Plate

Description:

What it is

The Hareline Peak Profile Plate is a visual background plate you set behind the hook at the vise. It gives you a neutral, matte background that cuts glare and reflections, which helps increase contrast so you can actually see what youre doing at the bench. Its meant to be a soothing, low-clutter backdrop that reduces eye strain when youre tying.

What to tie with it

You dont tie this into the fly; you use it while tying to make small details easier to see. It helps when youre checking thread placement, proportions, and symmetry, and when youre trying to judge material contrast as you build bodies, wings, collars, heads, and small add-ons like legs or antennae. Its also handy for seeing how clean your whip finish is and whether youve trapped stray fibers.

Flies and the fish they're for

Because its a bench accessory, the Profile Plate isnt tied into specific patterns, but its useful across the whole range from tiny trout dries and nymphs to larger streamers and saltwater flies. When youre dialing in proportions and clean finishes, that translates directly to better-performing trout flies on rivers and tailwaters, and better baitfish profiles for bass, redfish, and stripers in warmwater and coastal water. Its the kind of thing you notice most on small, fiddly patterns and on flies where profile and symmetry really matter.
