Hareline Stonfo Hair Packer

Description:

What it is

The Hareline Stonfo Hair Packer is a fly-tying tool made to push and compress hair back on the hook shank. It has an ergonomic grip and durable construction so you can pack materials tightly without your fingers slipping or getting sore.

What to tie with it

Use it anytime youre stacking, packing, or spinning hair to build dense bodies and heads, especially with deer hair and other natural or synthetic hair. Its the tool you reach for between clumps to compact the material, control shape, and keep the hook shank from getting crowded before you trim.

Flies and the fish they're for

This shows up at the vise for deer-hair-heavy patterns like the Sex Dungeon and the Buford, where tight packing helps you form a clean head and a solid profile; those are commonly fished for big trout and also see crossover use for other aggressive freshwater predators. Its also right at home on bass poppers, where packing hair tight makes a durable, buoyant head for largemouth and smallmouth in ponds, lakes, and rivers. While its built around hair packing for bigger flies, the same packing control is useful when youre setting deer hair wings on Comparaduns for picky trout on rivers and spring creeks.

How it compares

Compared to manual hair packing techniques, it takes less effort and typically gets you to a tighter pack in less time than traditional finger-pushing alone.
