New Arrival Hareline Half Grizzly Saddle

Description:

What it is

Hareline Half Grizzly Saddle is a grizzly half saddle of hackle feathers. The stems are supple, the feather sizes run across a useful range, and the fibers have good movement once theyre in the water. Being a half saddle, its an economical way to get quality grizzly hackle without buying a full saddle.

What to tie with it

Use it for classic streamer work: tailing and winging streamers, and palmering it up the shank for a pulsing body. It also crosses over well into dry-fly tying as hackle, and you can palmer it for larger nymph bodies when you want that buggy, bristly profile.

Flies and the fish they're for

The go-to example is the Woolly Bugger, where this hackle is commonly palmered to build the body and add movement; that fly catches trout in rivers and stillwaters, and its also a staple for smallmouth bass in creeks and rivers. Grizzly saddle hackle is also a standard dry-fly hackle choice, so it fits right into mayfly-style dry flies that trout eat on freestone streams, spring creeks, and tailwaters.

How it compares

Compared with many full saddle hackles that can be expensive, half saddles are a lower-cost route while still being suited to dry-fly tying. Its in the same lane as Keoughs Grizzly Saddles, and a full saddle simply gives you more feathers; compared to Whitings 100 Pack Saddles, a half saddle tends to cover more uses at the bench.
