Ross Evolution LTX

Description:

The Ross Reels Evolution series defined the modern trout reel. Now meet the award-winning Evolution LTX: the perfect combination of original Evolution LT feel and Evolution R performance

The drag debuting with the LTX is over four times stronger than its predecessors, while retaining the sound and feel that helped make the Evolution an icon. This allows it to perform not only as a perfect trout reel, but also has the power to take on saltwater game fish like Redfish, Bonefish, and Snook.

The large arbor spool includes an innovative line channel for cleanly hiding arbor knots when winding on backing. The Ross Reels signature bell-shaped arbor design also adds strength, while helping to self-level the fly line across the face of the spool as it is retrieved.

The LTX also incorporates a handle machined from canvas phenolic rod (another Ross Reels innovation), which reduces weight, adds durability, and increases grip when wet. These improvements make the LTX a true light saltwater contender, perfectly at home on the flats as it is on the shores of a western river.

These meticulously designed features of the LTX converge in a lightweight package, redefining the trout reel for another generation.

FAQ

Who Is the Ross Evolution LTX For?
The Evolution LTX is built for anglers who appreciate the feel of a traditional trout reel but want more drag performance than most reels in this category can offer. Lightweight, refined, and beautifully machined, it excels as an all-around freshwater reel for trout, bass, carp, and steelhead while offering enough stopping power in the larger sizes for select light saltwater applications.

For anglers who value balance, simplicity, and versatility over maximum drag numbers or heavy-duty saltwater features, the Evolution LTX hits a sweet spot that few reels can match.

How Strong Is the Drag on the Evolution LTX?
The Evolution LTX drag is more than four times stronger than the original Evolution LT. That gives it plenty of power for large trout, bass, carp, and even select light saltwater species.

It still retains the classic Ross sound and feel, but with a much wider performance range than earlier Evolution reels.

Can the Evolution LTX Be Used in Saltwater?
Yes, in the larger sizes. The Evolution LTX is not a dedicated big-game saltwater reel, but the 7/8 is a capable option for redfish, bonefish, snook, and other light saltwater applications.

For tarpon, permit, GTs, or heavy saltwater fishing, anglers should look at a purpose-built saltwater reel instead.

What Makes the Evolution LTX Different from the Animas?
The Animas is the more rugged, workhorse option. The Evolution LTX is lighter, more refined, and more performance-oriented.

Anglers who want a dependable everyday reel may lean toward the Animas. Anglers looking for a premium trout reel with a smoother feel, lighter weight, and stronger drag than previous Evolution models will likely prefer the LTX.

How Does the Ross Evolution LTX Compare to Other Premium Freshwater Reels?
For anglers comparing reels in the $400$700 range, the Evolution LTX often represents one of the strongest values available. It offers premium construction, a proven drag system, and exceptional versatility without pushing into the price territory occupied by many of today's ultra-premium freshwater reels.

What Are the Downsides of the Ross Evolution LTX?
The Evolution LTX is not designed to be a heavy-duty saltwater or big-game reel. While the larger sizes can handle light flats fishing, this reel is still best understood as a premium trout reel with crossover ability.

Anglers targeting tarpon, permit, large striped bass, or other powerful saltwater species will be better served by a reel built specifically for those situations. For trout, bass, carp, and light saltwater use, however, the Evolution LTX hits a very strong balance of weight, drag strength, and classic Ross feel.
