Hareline Arctic Fox Hair

Description:

What it is

Hareline Arctic Fox Hair is a patch of arctic fox hair with a mix of stiffer guard hairs and soft underfur. On the hook it gives you moderate bulk and a lot of motion, and in the water it breathes and flows instead of looking rigid. The fibers hold up well for a natural-fur material, so its a good choice when you want movement but still need durability.

What to tie with it

Use it for winging hairwing patterns for steelhead and salmon, and for tails on streamers where you want a lively profile without an oversized silhouette. It also stacks into bulky streamer heads and works well spun or blended into dubbing brushes when you want that guard-hair sparkle with underfur body. In saltwater it crosses over nicely for tails and wings on shrimp and baitfish-style flies, and it makes a mobile collar material on bigger patterns.

Flies and the fish they're for

Arctic fox shows up in the Red Fox Nymph as dubbing or tailing, a nymph that gets fished for trout in rivers and tailwaters. In hairwing streamers like the Red Fox Streamer and Red Fox Clouser, its doing the wing and tail work for trout and smallmouth in freshwater, and it translates straight into inshore work for species like redfish when youre fishing Clouser-type baitfish. Tied as a shrimp tail or wing on bonefish flies, its a common way to add movement for bonefish on shallow flats, and used as a collar its right at home on tarpon patterns where that breathing fur helps the fly look alive at slow speed.

How it compares

Compared to Arctic Fishermans Finn Raccoon, its the same idea of guard hair over underfur, but Arctic Fox Hair runs longer in length.
