Hareline Cactus Hackle

Description:

What it is

Hareline Cactus Hackle is a pearl cactus hackle fly-tying material built around long, reflective fibers that throw a lot of sparkle in the water. Its made to be easy to wrap like hackle or chenille, and it holds up well on the hook for flies that see a lot of teeth and rocks.

What to tie with it

Wrap it hackle-style to build big, buggy bodies fast, or palmer it up the shank for full-profile streamer bodies. Its a clean option when you want a durable, light-reflective body on baitfish and crayfish patterns without having to stack a bunch of separate flash materials.

Flies and the fish they're for

Tied in a simple flashy nymph, cactus hackle is right at home under a Euro rig or as the dropper in a dry/dropper for trout in rivers and tailwaters. Used for fuller streamer and baitfish bodies, it fits the kind of flies youd throw for smallmouth in rivers and for trout that are keying on minnows. On crayfish-style bodies, it lands in the box for smallmouth and largemouth anywhere craw patterns are a staple, especially rocky rivers and lakes.
