Hareline Dyed Over White

Description:

What it is

Hareline Dyed Over White is a saddle hackle feather material. Saddle hackle is durable and strong on the hook, with that lifelike movement you want when the fly is moving or just hanging in the water. Its also easy to work with at the vise, so you can size and shape it without fighting the feather.

What to tie with it

Use it for hackling and for building movement into a fly: palmer it as a collar, wrap it as a body hackle, or tie in sections as tails and legs on larger patterns. It also works well as a wing or wing accent on streamers where you want feather motion without adding a lot of bulk. On bass bugs and poppers, its a clean way to add a breathing tail or a hackle collar behind the head.

Flies and the fish they're for

Saddle hackle like this shows up across trout, warmwater, and saltwater tying because it gives you motion with durability. On trout flies its commonly used where a hackle collar or palmered body adds life for trout in rivers and stillwaters. In warmwater patterns its a staple for bass bugs and bass poppers aimed at largemouth and smallmouth in ponds, lakes, and rivers, and it also fits right into saltwater streamers for species like redfish, seatrout, and striped bass in flats, bays, and rips.
