Hareline Golden Pheasant Body Feathers

Description:

What it is

Hareline Golden Pheasant Body Feathers are strung body feathers from golden pheasant that have been dyed. Being on a string keeps them organized at the bench and makes it easy to pull one feather at a time. On the hook they act like a soft, mobile feather that will breathe as a collar or hackle.

What to tie with it

Use these for collar hackles on wets and streamers by stroking fibers back and taking a couple wraps, or by tying in the tip and palmering for a longer, flowing hackle. They also work well as streamer cheeks when you want a small side accent without adding bulk. For spey-style flies, treat them like a light spey hackle and build a slim, swept profile.

Flies and the fish they're for

Golden pheasant body feathers show up in shrimp and prawn patterns like the General Practitioner, a classic for Atlantic salmon and sea-trout in coastal rivers and estuaries. Theyre also used as hackle or accents on traditional wet flies and salmon/steelhead patterns where a soft collar helps the fly move in current, making them relevant for trout in rivers as well as steelhead and salmon in larger flows. In salt water, that same hackle-and-cheek use carries over to shrimp-style flies fished for species like bonefish and permit on flats when the pattern calls for a feather collar and a bit of shoulder/cheek detail.
