Hareline Ice Dub Shimmer Fringe

Description:

What it is

Hareline Ice Dub Shimmer Fringe is a fused-end flash fringe built from Ice Dub material, with singed ends to keep it tidy at the bench. It sheds water and throws a lot of light, so it stays lively without getting soggy. The Minnow Back version is meant to give you that darker-back contrast on baitfish profiles.

What to tie with it

Use it for streamer tails and wings, or as a subtle flash accent layered over or under your main wing to suggest the top line of a minnow. It also works well in a dubbing loop when you want a flashy, spiky body or collar without the material fouling everywhere because the ends are fused. You can cut it into smaller pieces for tighter applications like nymph wings, and it pairs naturally with UV resins when youre building a baitfish head.

Flies and the fish they're for

This material is at home in baitfish patterns for trout, smallmouth, and striped bass in rivers and lakes, and it crosses over cleanly into saltwater baitfish work for species like redfish where a little flash on the wing helps in off-colored water. Guides and tyers also use it alongside UV resins when theyre tying modern baitfish patterns that need a defined back and a clean, durable finish. Cut down short, it can serve as a small wing or accent on trout nymphs and emergers when you want just a hint of flash rather than a full streamer-style wing.

How it compares

Compared to standard Ice Dub Shimmer Fringe in solid options with similar fused-end construction, Minnow Back is picked when you specifically want that darker baitfish back contrast, while the regular Shimmer Fringe is often the go-to when youre building more of the body effect.
