Hareline Pseudo Hair

Description:

What it is

Hareline Pseudo Hair is a synthetic fly-tying hair made from fine synthetic fibers blended with an underfur. The fibers are about 3.25 inches long with a soft texture, but it holds up well, and in the water it gives you a bright, clean look with a lifelike movement you normally reach for when you want a natural hair profile without the fragility.

What to tie with it

Its built for tying baitfish patterns, shrimp flies, and all kinds of streamers where you want a tapered, impressionistic silhouette. You can stack it, blend it, and trim it to shape for wings and bodies, and its easy to handle when youre building sparse to medium-dense profiles that need to swim instead of just sit there. The underfur component helps fill space so you can get bulk without having to overdress the fly.

Flies and the fish they're for

Pseudo Hair is commonly used for the wing on Crazy Charlie and Gotcha-style bonefish flies, where that soft, lively synthetic wing helps sell the small shrimp and crab vibe over shallow flats. In the same baitfish-imitation role, it fits right into streamer work for species like largemouth and smallmouth bass in ponds and rivers, and it crosses over to saltwater baitfish patterns for fish like redfish and stripers when you need a durable synthetic that keeps moving. Even though its known at the bench for shrimp and baitfish, synthetics like this also show up in dry-fly wing work for mayfly duns and spinners and caddis-style profiles when you want an easy-to-build, consistent wing that wont soak up water like some natural hairs.

How it compares

Compared with natural hair, Pseudo Hair is made to mimic natural elements while being more durable and easier to shape without worrying as much about fibers breaking under thread pressure.
