Hareline Ringneck Pheasant Complete Tail Clump

Description:

What it is

Hareline Ringneck Pheasant Complete Tail Clump is a full bundle of rooster ringneck pheasant tail feathers, including both the center and side feathers from the tail. The fibers are naturally chevron barred with an iridescent look, and they run from stiffer to slightly softer depending on which feather you pull from. The fibers are tapered and durable, so they wrap cleanly for bodies and also hold up well when used as tails and legs.

What to tie with it

Use it for nymph and wet fly bodies by stripping and wrapping the fibers as a natural, buggy dubbing substitute. Its also a go-to for tails, wing cases and wing casings, plus throats on nymphs and wings on wet flies. You can even knot individual fibers for hopper and other terrestrial legs when you want a crisp, segmented look.

Flies and the fish they're for

Baetis nymph patterns tied with pheasant tail fibers are staple trout flies for matching Blue-Winged Olive mayflies in rivers and tailwaters. The same pheasant tail body-and-wingcase style translates well to small, natural nymph profiles that get eaten by trout in clear water where subtle barring and taper matter.

How it compares

A complete tail clump gives you more fiber length and more marking variety than buying a pair of loose feathers, which is handy when youre selecting specific stiffness and barring for bodies versus tails and legs.
