Hareline River Road Foam

Description:

What it is

Hareline River Road Foam is a stainless-steel cutter tool made to punch out hopper bodies from fly-tying foam. The cutting edge is sharp and designed for precision, so the bodies come out clean and consistent. Stainless steel construction makes it rust resistant and corrosion resistant at the bench and in a damp boat bag.

What to tie with it

Use it to cut foam blanks that become hopper-style bodies, then tie them in with your usual thread wraps and lash points and trim as needed. Its a straightforward way to form repeatable foam bodies when youre building a batch of foam terrestrials.

Flies and the fish they're for

Foam hopper patterns built from cut foam bodies are staple summertime trout flies on rivers and freestones, where theyre fished tight to banks, under overhanging grass, and along foam lines. The same style of foam-bodied terrestrial also gets fished for panfish like bluegill in ponds and small lakes when fish are looking up and willing to crush a floating bug.

How it compares

Compared to hand-cutting foam bodies, this cutter makes more consistent shapes from one fly to the next, especially when youre tying multiples. It also saves time when you want a neat, repeatable hopper profile without fussing with scissors.
