Hareline UV2 Raptor Hackle

Description:

What it is

UV2 Raptor Hackle is rhea feather hackle made from rhea quills. The fibers are lively in the water with a lot of motion, and the material is built to take abuse so it holds up over time.

What to tie with it

Use it for feelers and antennae on shrimp and crustacean patterns, or as moving collars and veils on bigger flies. You can wrap it like hackle, spin it in a dubbing loop for a brushy profile, or tie it in as small clumps when you want targeted movement without bulk.

Flies and the fish they're for

Intruder-style flies are a classic place for rhea, where the long, mobile fibers help build the flowing profile these patterns are known for. Fish Intruders for anadromous and migratory species like steelhead and salmon in rivers, and they also show up in trout streamer fishing when you want that same breathing action in the current.

How it compares

It overlaps with ostrich feathers in how it moves and how you can use it, but rhea is the tougher, longer-wearing option.
