Hareline Sculpting Flash Fibre

Description:

What it is

Hareline Sculpting Flash Fibre is a fly-tying flash fibre made from a micro-flash fibre blend. Its lightweight, water-resistant, and sparkly, and it can be shaped so you can build a profile without adding much bulk or weight.

What to tie with it

Use it to form baitfish bodies and wings where you want flash and volume but still want the fly to stay light in the water. It also works well for shaping shells and backs on crab patterns and for building shrimp-style bodies, typically tied in on top in a way that keeps the fibres full-length for a clean, sculpted silhouette.

Flies and the fish they're for

This material shows up in minnow-style streamers like a Sculpting Flash Fibre Minnow, which is the kind of fly you fish for sea trout and also for perch and other predator fish in moving water and along structure. Its also used in mullet-style guide fly patterns like Passs Sheep Mullet, a baitfish profile commonly fished in saltwater for predators that key on mullet. Because its easy to shape while staying water-resistant, it fits right into modern shrimp and crab patterns for flats species when you need a defined body without a lot of weight.
