Description:
What it is
Loon Swax Low Tack is a dubbing wax you apply to your tying thread to help dubbing grab and stay put. It has low tack, so it gives you control without getting gummy, and it washes off your hands cleanly with no sticky residue.
What to tie with it
Use it when youre dubbing on fine thread and you want a tight, minimal-bulk noodle for small dry fly bodies and slim nymph bodies. Its also handy for touch-dubbing and building clean, sparse profiles where you dont want the thread to load up with wax.
Flies and the fish they're for
Any small dubbed dry like an Adams is commonly tied with wax like this to keep a slender body, and its fished for trout on rivers and spring creeks where tiny mayflies matter. Slim nymphs such as a Pheasant Tail Nymph benefit from low-tack wax on fine thread, and that fly is a staple for trout and grayling in rivers and tailwaters. Small midge pupae patterns like a Zebra Midge often call for a clean, skinny body, and theyre fished for trout in tailwaters and winter flows.
How it compares
Compared with higher-tack dubbing wax, Swax Low Tack has lower adhesion, which makes it easier to control dubbing on fine thread and keep profiles slim instead of building bulk.
