Hareline Tyers Glass Beads

Description:

What it is

Hareline Tyers Glass Beads are fly-tying beads made from glass. They have a translucent finish that lets light pass through, and theyre lightweight but durable on the hook.

What to tie with it

Use them on nymph and emerger bodies when you want a clean, glassy look without adding much weight. They also work well for creating segmentation on caddisfly pupae and for a chironomid-style air-bubble effect by stacking beads or placing them to suggest trapped gas.

Flies and the fish they're for

These beads are at home on bead-bodied nymphs and emergers fished for trout and panfish in rivers and stillwaters, especially when insects like midges and caddis are important. They also fit chironomid-style patterns for trout in lakes, where that air-bubble look can matter during the pupal rise. Because theyre durable and light, theyre useful when you want the look of a bead without turning the fly into a fast-sinking weight system.

How it compares

Glass beads are lighter than tungsten and lighter than brass beads, so they change the look more than the sink rate. When you need the same profile with more weight up front, youd typically move to brass or tungsten instead.
